progress on world saving

GAMES

finished syberia 2. gorgeous graphics but meh in all other aspects. character dev fell flat, music seemed a wannabe version of syberia 1, and hello, was there even a climax to this thing? aside from the oscar and train bit near the end, nothing else was too exciting.

walkedthroughed jack the ripper last december. i hate polygons (forever) but the background sets were pretty fab. all the rest, from plot to ending to character dev, were disappointing. wtf was up with that damn bird flying around everywhere?! didn't get it and don't care enough to want to get it.

FLICKS

caught four brothers the night before this year's ces trip. satisfyingly violent enough that i'll pass over the cliche crust (e.g. revenge plot, brotherly dialogue, hero shots, so on and whatnot). the four main actors were great -- i cared enough to laugh with them. marky mark overplayed it at times...though i'll forgive him anything cuz he wore great clothes.

forced mother to sit through the soong sisters with me during christmas day. ew to the director trying oh-so-hard to create appropriately dramatic moments...most of it sliding downwards towards the crappy corny melodrama pit. bugs me no end when the people in one family all have different chinese accents. the husbands were mere caricatures rather than fully-fleshed...for that matter, all the characters were caricatures by the end of the film.

pooterhead was great fun stuff. dumbleydore running around with great big waves of his arms was a bit off-kilter to the character (whatever happened to twinkly granfatherly type?), and damn was hermione on severe pms or what. thoroughly enjoyed snape knocking on weasley and pooter. hooray for the inclusion of more fred and george funnies. even ginny got to have a few assertive lines. bizarre to hear a heavy scottish brogue from a small asian girl.

never read the narnia books. i'd like to kidnap the little girl who played georgie though. liam neeson in another wise mentor role wasn't a big deal (not that he didn't do a good job, i just didn't care much about aslan). the best things are how the beavers wore armor. and oh yieah, the four kids gave great melodrama...nice foil to that deliciously one-dimensional evil of the white witch.
